The Hakosuka

Hakosuka - Hako (ハコ) means Box in Japanese, and suka(スカ) is short for Skyline. Here is a nice video of an enthusiast living his dreams.

Using lowering springs to give your car better performance

Car stance is everything not only it improves in aesthetics but it also help the cars handling.
Here is a good explanation from Japanese Cars. READ!

Stock vs Lowered. Height will vary depending on spring rate.

One of the best ways to get an unbeatable look for one's car is through lowering springs as it gives the car an amazing look. It not only gives great style and enigma to the car, but also improves the performance of your car. The reason being, Lowering springs tend to give the car a lower center of gravity which improves the handling and steering response of the car. They can also bring the fuel consumption of the car to considerably low levels. However, there are some good to know facts before buying lowering springs for your car.

There are many who suggest heating your springs to make them sag, it is best not to follow any such suggestions as it is going to damage your car and its performance and is ultimately going to cost you a lot of money.

Lowering the car exerts a lot of stress and pressure on the OEM struts and shocks. To ensure good performance of struts and shocks even after lowering your car, it is recommended to buy suspension parts with a record of good performance. If one is running on a tight budget, purchasing separate struts, shocks and springs will give you the desirable ride and height without pricking your pocket much. However, if you are one of those quality conscious people, then it is best to go for quality coilovers like Skunk 2, Mugen, Megan Racing, D2, Tein and JIC. Though these coilovers are costlier, they have more benefits to offer as well.

The most important advantage of using performance shocks and struts is that it has the ability to endure and survive the rigors and thrusts of a lowered ride. The performance shocks and struts also give a comfortable seating arrangement for the driver as well as for the passengers. On the other hand if one is choosing OEM shocks and struts, then one should be prepared for the harsh and raucous rides.

Coilovers are considered to be a good option for lowering the car. The coilovers include struts and shocks, lowering springs and a built in camber adjustment. The purchasing of coilover sleeves will also serve the purpose, however one needs to have performance struts and shocks and a quality camber kit for a decent ride.

Lowering springs give a sleek and modern look to your car and also maintains the quality and stability of the car. One can also avoid the unwanted body roll by using lowering springs of good quality. There is no doubt that lowering springs are the best way to give the looks of your car an edge over the others and to kill the gap between the fender lip and the top of the wheel.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8

Here is a fast and quick review like the car itself! The numbers are good how about the price? well if the price is right why not?

Every now and then we step out of the traditional sub/compact segment. This is one of those times, and boy is it fun.

Behold the 2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track, all 345 horsepower of it. Technically, the EPA actually calls the Hyundai Genesis Coupe a subcompact—works for me. I love the revised front end, the big-ass Brembo brakes, and the snarl of the exhaust. Unfortunately it's saddled with the automatic. All hope isn't lost; it's the company's new eight-speed (no, that's not a typo) hooked up to the sweet 3.8-liter mill and directing power to the rear wheels. It does have manual shifting abilities thanks to paddle shifters.

Initial impressions: Oh so fun, even for an automatic. Great power, great brakes, great handling. Fuel economy is ... who cares. I haven't bothered to look. All I know so far is that it has got gobs of thrust, especially considering most vehicles we review here have under 150 hp. It feels very solid, and I think it looks great. The fuel bill for this one might be higher than most, but you know what? I don't care.

Stay Tuned.

How to deal with a boxing robbery

I thought robbers only attack on street alleys I didn't know that they do exist in a sport like boxing. If you haven't watched the Pacquiao vs Bradley fight last night then good for you. The fight reached a decisive match in which Bradley won by split decision and Bradley himself is shocked. It was clear who won the fight from compubox and the stats, for that loss Pacquiao now has 4 losses and the best part, Mayweather now can bash on Pacquiao all day in his cute little prison cell.

Boxing nowadays is a politic sports, money runs it. It is a business thanks to the promoters who want's some benjamins. So, you ask how Pacquiao deal with the loss?
and with a this

what more can he ask? now that he is also a religious figure. Maybe it't time to hang up the gloves if no Mayweather clash will happen or it never will happen.

The 2012 Hyundai Veloster

So, here is the new 2012 Hyundai Veloster. I will not have a review on this car coz it will still about to be released. Yesterday, I read a blog that the Veloster will be priced below $20 grand! are you kidding me! Thankfully it published erroneous information before having it confirmed. The Veloster by the way have a turbo variant for a whopping $1,600. For the real MSRP we will have to wait 24 hours for that.

Frankly speaking the Veloster is the only Hyundai line I like by the way the body angle looks, looking at the front fascia you can see the large grill that's about to swallow the car in front and at first glanced it looks like the new Audi A8. If the numbers on this Veloster is worth the price, I'll take one any day.

Anybody can drive in Uncle Sam's land

I got a close call this morning while driving. This old model silver Ford Taurus with Cali plates - 6UDM693 suddenly cut me off without even signaling. You might say he didn't noticed me. Well, how can he not notice me when I'm adjacent to him in the stoplight. I know he did that on purpose coz after a mile he did that again to another vehicle. I don't know what's his issue, maybe he wants to get to the second stoplight first or he thinks he is in NASCAR. To the driver! make sure when you do that there's no other passenger on the other party! I was with my 7yr old at that time. Damn! cali drivers! just god damn plain inconsiderate fools!

His vehicle looks similar to this.

Fiat 500 Abarth

Here's a bad news for Fiat fans specifically for the "Abarth" model. They are SOLD OUT! info here
My take on this is, why would they limit the production to just 3,000? to make it exclusive? Nah, anyhow I'd rather stick to the Mini Cooper specifically the "JCW (John Cooper Works) edition". Boom! and your abarth eats my dust!

A target for the bull

In a recent article by Top Gear Philippines on the Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann visiting the country, In his speech, Winkelmann revealed that the Italian carmaker's sales target for the Philippines is 15 units a year.

Hell yeah that can be achieved if the corrupt politicians will order a pair each, it may even surpass Winkelmann's projected target. If your not familiar with the Philippine government, we do have some or the worst CORRUPT politicians. I know that every country have their  corrupt politicians but in the Philippines they are doing it upfront.

So to answer Lamborghini's sales target, is a big Y E S! yes you can achieve the target for 15 units a year.

A guy named Lewis Hamilton

I'm humbled by watching the video. It seems that nobody from my countryman noticed who this guy was or they just didn't publicly announced it but anyway to Lewis your just not a great driver but a great man. May God give you more or even ten folds of what you have done to the street children in Manila.

A MUST upgrade for the Forester

Sadly my Forester didn't came with a factory fog light kit it would have save me some benjamin's. I really think that a fog kit is the first necessary upgrade for your Forester. Here are a couple reasons. First, the Forester came pre-wired. Second, the kit comes with the stalk for the fog kit that's why it's called "kit". Third, it's an easy diy (do it yourself) job with no need to remove the front bumper and lastly, it can make your Forester look complete frontage wise (see picture). Don't mind the sports grill on the picture, that's next on my list after the fog kit.

I'll have some diy write up for the fog kit as soon as I bought one.

Mighty Car Mods

I found this guys through youtube while searhing for some diy (do it yourself) for my Forester. They are a pair of aussie dudes with some skills on some diy modification on any car available in the market, what's good about these two is that some of the mods are the basics on every car like how to install a tachometer, how to paint your wheels and so on. They even have an episode where they compare a Nissan S15 and a Subaru Legacy RS with some mods like fmic and turbo upgrades, guess who won! no other than the Subaru. It smoked the Nissan on a drag race for about a yard... no I'm just kidding folks but it does beat the S15.

Go check them out!

K & N drop in filter

Here's my drop in filter replacement for the oem lame paper type for the Forester. My concern is it is oiled and I have read that some of the oils will go to the MAF sensor but I have been using this for about 7 months now and all I can say is "Great". Great to the fact that my fuel consumption now is 32~34mpg highway. What more can you ask. Nevermind those saying negative comments about it, they are just sourgraping.

The part number for the Forester is 33-2304.

Suzuki: 0% financing for 72 months. Will it help?

Here is a good write up about Suzuki here in the U.S while in my home country around asia Suzuki is the exact opposite of this article, heck! we even have a Suzuki club back home!

Suzuki posted on its Facebook page today that it was going to offer up to 0% financing for 72 months on all 2012 Suzuki models. That's quite a good deal if you qualify for it. The financing is done through American Suzuki Financial Services, and the vehicles must be purchased by May 31, 2012.

The question is, will anyone notice? With the company's lack of marketing, greatly reduced social media efforts, and shrinking dealer network, Suzuki hasn't been great at promoting itself. I don't think there's even been a press release about it.

Suzuki join a host of other manufacturers in the 0% until 5/31 club. However, this 0% is on all Suzuki models, whereas other manufactures are offering it on select nameplates, and it's for the long duration of 72 months.  It'd be great if ASMC did an ad blitz to promote the deal and get some bodies into their dealers. Is 0% for 72 mos. enough to make people go to a Suzuki dealer? I'm sure the company will see a spike in May sales; then again, with sales as low as they've been, any increase is a good one.

A 2.5L Forester Boxer Engine

Last December we finally gave up our 2008 Yaris Sedan for a brand new Forester. The Yaris serves us best with almost 38mpg from day to day driving. We went to a Subaru dealer in Glendale (will post review on the dealership) to choose a Forester variant. Upon reaching their lot a 2009 XT caught my eyes, while inspecting I reckoned that it's too much gas guzzler due to it being a turbo model. The Sales Consultant then pointed us to a brand spanking new Metallic Blue Pearl Forester sitting on the center lot. Upon inspecting it we were sold to it being a brand new car and I were the first to break it in.

Here is the "In with the new, Out with the old" cliche.

While driving it home there is a night and day difference between the two. First is the acceleration, the Forester pulls strong even though it's an A/T with just 4 speed tranny but with the help of the Sport Mode it's a different story. The handling also exceeds my expectations with a factory installed front and rear sway bar I try to enter a corner with 40mph and it just tears the road apart, but you can feel the rear not so planted on the road with that speed you can also upgrade the sway bars and it's a different story. The gas consumption is a bit on a downside being a 2.5L from our previous 1.5L. Highway driving I got 31~33mpg while city driving I only got 22~23mpg with occasional traffic.

The styling for me is just right, it doesn't shout too much attention like the X6 bimmer. The front bumper though looks like a ship with a slightly upper curvature but a front lip spoiler will fix that plus a couple upgrade of wheel and tire with a subtle drop it's gonna look like this minus the hood scoop.

Overall I can say that the Forester is one helluvah ride to have, it can be a gas guzzler but it serves it's purpose. It's bang for the buck!

Threadless no more

I have found a unique site that caters to my needs in terms of shirt design a couple years ago, it's called Threadless. Upon inspecting there website I was sold to there designs, much more it was designed by individuals and freelance artist from all around the globe. I then bought a pair and a pair after until I'm hooked. Not only there designs were cool even there shirt packaging at that time was excellent and the price is cheap. (see pix below)

The shirt fabric were also soft and thick, the prints were nicely done. Not up until recently when I bought from them. Upon receiving the item the packaging was horrible, it was like wrapped in a black garbage bag and the fabric was lame I mean it was thin (I don't know the clothing term) and the print was horrible. I don't know whats wrong with there production these days but I'm just not sold on it anymore.

Hey! Threadless Y U NO HIRE GOOD QC?!

Cartown Truck in the flesh

I stumbled this Cartown Milk truck while strolling on an outlet mall the other day, well it's not really from Cartown but I'am sure this is behind there idea. It seems weird when you are actually a feet apart from the real thing. You must know by now the popular Facebook game Cartown. If not then shoot yourself.

Save Nurburgring

If your a gear head then you already know what it meant when you hear the word Nurburgring. If not, well here's a little info for you.

Nürburgring is a motorsports complex around the village of Nürburg, Germany. It features a Grand Prix race track built in 1984, and a much longer old North loop track which was built in the 1920s around the village and medieval castle of Nürburg in the Eifel mountains. It is located about 70 km (43 mi) south of Cologne, and 120 km (75 mi) northwest of Frankfurt. The old track was nicknamed "The Green Hell" by Jackie Stewart and is widely considered one of the most demanding purpose-built racing circuits in the world.

Originally, the track featured four configurations: the 28.265 km (17.563 mi)-long Gesamtstrecke ("Whole Course"), which in turn consisted of the 22.810 km (14.173 mi) Nordschleife ("Northern Loop"), and the 7.747 km (4.814 mi) Südschleife ("Southern Loop"). There also was a 2.281 km (1.417 mi) warm-up loop called Zielschleife ("Finish Loop") or better known as Betonschleife, around the pit area. Between 1982 and 1983 the start-finish area was demolished to create a new GP-Strecke, and this is used for all major and international racing events. However, the shortened Nordschleife is still in use, for racing, testing and public access.

Now, here's how you can help save it. http://savethering.org/

How to Protect your Paint from Harsh Winters (brought to you by AutoAnything)

Nice tip for us gear head fans. Winter is coming on our way.

Harsh winters have no sympathy for your vehicle’s paint. There are a few things in your control that protect your vehicle’s exterior. Start with one of our bug/stone deflectors that shields your ride from those pesky dive-bombing bugs. They also reduce windshield damage from stones kicked up by other vehicles on the road. Available with easy-to-install designs and a variety of finishes, they are guaranteed to complement your vehicle while adding protection. What better way to protect your vehicle’s front end than with a custom-fit car bra. These handy accessories protect your ride’s paint from that merciless winter weather and give you added styling at the same time. Constructed from durable materials to last and perfect for your winter road trips.

Now that you have the front end covered, make sure your wheels and tires have a sturdy set of winter mud flaps that increase protection from rocks, mud and road debris. Mud flaps are very easy to install and also provide a custom fit for your exact vehicle. To top it all off, make sure you have one of our waterproof car covers to protect your vehicle’s whole exterior. Just because you can’t park in a garage 24/7 doesn’t mean you can’t protect your ride from Jack Frost. A waterproof car cover provides a perfect fit on your vehicle and gives it a fighting chance against the elements: rain, snow, ice and even extreme sun. Available with a variety of finishes and warranties, you have worry-free protection for the life of your vehicle. Driving in harsh winter may be inevitable, but extend the life of your investment with these simple steps that protect your ride.

Prepping your car for winter

Old Man Winter has no sympathy for you or your ride. Give him an evenly-matched fight this season with the perfect winter driving accessories to protect your vehicle. A set of performance wiper blades ensures your vision is crystal clear for safe driving in those harsh conditions. Kick it up a notch with a set of heated wiper blades that keep your view crystal clear, even in snowy weather. Or, protect your entire windshield with a durable windshield cover. Crafted from long-lasting materials, a windshield cover guards the whole surface of your windshield from extreme cold weather conditions, including ice. No more frostbitten fingers and scraping your windshield before your daily commute. What better way to take on tough winter weather than by hittin' the slopes or trails for some serious outdoor adventures.

You can't go out into the elements without gearing up your vehicle with all the essentials that ensure your drive is as smooth as possible. Start by clasping a sturdy set of snow chains to your tires to get you and your family to your destination safely. Available in a variety of sizes and styles, snow chains provide impressive traction in the heaviest of snow. Now that you have your wheels taken care of, make sure you have plenty of room for all your passengers by installing a high-capacity ski rack or roof rack on top of your ride. Tailored to perfectly fit your vehicle, a roof rack increases your cabin space and allows you to store more equipment on top of your ride. No more messy interior from frozen skis and snowy gear. And, to get all your snow toys out there on the trails, load up your vehicle with a trailer hitch. Custom-designs combined with easy installations mean that you spend less time in the garage and more time playing in the snow. So, get a jumpstart this season, bundle up and go enjoy that winter wonderland. grabbed from Subcompact Culture

Sinulog: The grandest festival in the Philippines

The Sinulog festival is one of the grandest and most colorful festivals in the Philippines with a very rich history. The main festival is held each year on the third Sunday of January in Cebu City to honor the Santo Niño, or the child Jesus, who used to be the patron saint of the whole province of Cebu (since in the Catholic faith Jesus is not a saint, but God). It is essentially a dance ritual which remembers the Filipino people’s pagan past and their acceptance of Christianity.

Tell me other festivals in the Philippines that can attract a crowd in millions.  I think only Sinulog can do it.

The Black Nazarene procession in Manila can draw in millions of crowd. But that is a religious event and yes, it is strictly religious– not that I know many of it since I haven’t even experienced joining that kind of event in Manila. But the Sinulog is far different for it mixes religion, devotion, fun and street party.
I’d say you have missed one half of your life if you haven’t joined the crowd in Sinulog. You don’t really have to join the choreographed street dancing. Let those dancers do it. However, if you really want to dance for Sinulog, then attend the last novena mass after the procession on the eve of the Sinulog day. You can surely dance with other churchgoers and be in the drumbeat with the priests and other devotees.
Why I say Sinulog is the grandest festival in the Philippines?
It’s a yearly tradition in Cebu to hold the festival event in honor of Sto. Nino.  And almost every year, the festival is getting grander. Not only Cebuanos can enjoy Sinulog. Local tourists from all over the Philippines and even foreign ones have to join Sinulog because it really is Super Fun in Sinulog.

Even from other locales in the Philippines, they join the Sinulog parade to feature their dancing routines. There are contingents from Lanao del Norte, Dumaguete and other parts in the Philippines. Hence, the Sinulog dancing is not strictly for Cebu-based contingents. That’s one of the foremost reasons why Sinulog is the grandest parade because even non-Cebu contingents enter the dancing scene to show their veneration to the Child Jesus. text:Cebu Bloggers Society and Sinulog.ph

2012 Yaris SE review

Yaris is now available in three trim levels, with the SE model being the sporty version. The SE gets unique features like a rear spoiler, a distinctive front fascia with fog lamps, and attractive 16” alloy wheels. I like what they’ve done with the looks. It’s sporty and edgy without looking like it’s adorned with a bunch of bolt-on additions. I like the car from most angles, although I’m not a huge fan of the rear end, but it isn’t a deal breaker. You can still see hints of the last-gen Yaris in the ’12, but the overall look is more mature, less bubble-like. Also, the SE is only available as a five-door model. The three-door is reserved for the more basic trim levels.

The new Yaris’ interior gets a big upgrade. Gone are the hard plastic accoutrements, instead replaced by attractive styling, a soft-touch dash, and a fat, racy steering wheel. Also gone: the old Yaris' useful upper passenger glovebox, and the often loathed center-mounted gauges. The new three-dial cluster with red illumination is much better. The front sport seats are fantastic with good bolstering, but they’re still comfortable for long hauls. The climate control is the basic three-dial control system. The rear seats are surprisingly roomy. The cargo area remains fairly small, as it was in the previous Yaris, but the rear seats fold flat for extra cargo carrying ability. One thing I don’t like is the radio. I don’t find it attractive or user-friendly. Ditto that for the Bluetooth connectivity. Sound quality is respectable, though. The steering wheel has cruise- and audio controls, too.

Speaking of steering, it is one of the Yaris’ best attributes. Where the old Yaris featured an over-boosted system with little feel, the SE has great feel, and is extremely quick and agile. In fact, the steering ratio on the SE is quicker than the non-SE Yaris models. Add the SE’s sport suspension, and you’ve got a very tossible canyon carver that loves the corners. Amazingly, the ride doesn’t suffer, either. We put more than 450 miles on the car and never felt uncomfortable, even on the long trips. A nice blend of handling and ride.

Although the steering, suspension tuning, and interior are all new, the engine is from the Toyota parts bin. Yaris is still powered by the same 1.5-liter 1NZ-FE engine found in the older Yaris as well as the Scion xB and xA, and the 2000+ Echo. Yes, this is essentially a 12-year old engine reentering service, likely for another four-plus years. The five-speed manual is also a carryover. But hey, if it ain’t broke ...

Even though this is the sporty version, it only makes 106 horsepower and 103 ft./lbs. of torque—the same as all Yaris models. But the Yaris is also the featherweight of the class weighing just 2,375 lbs. (For comparison’s sake, the Chevrolet Sonic turbo weighs more than 2,800 lbs. but makes 138 hp.) The driving experience is quite fun. The quick steering, light curb weight , well-defined shifter, and four-wheel disc brakes make the car more entertaining to drive that you might expect. We did notice a fair amount of road noise and engine racket during acceleration, though.

Our five-speed Yaris SE tester retails for $17,340 including $760 in destination and $150 for carpeted floor mats—a very reasonable price. The Yaris has certainly grown up, become more sophisticated, and improved over the previous generation. It’s true that the powertrain isn’t the newest, and its chassis is very similar to the last model. But it’s very much improved in all respects, and it deserves a look for those shopping for a great combination of fuel efficiency, sporty handling, and what is likely to be legendary Toyota reliability.

2012 Kia Soul Exclaim

Seen the latest ad on this small compact car, where they use hamsters dancing to an upbeat music. If not you can view it here.

Here's a brief review by
When I reviewed the '10 Soul in August of '09, I praised the vehicle for its fair price, admirable performance, and extroverted personality. The 2012 Soul Exclaim, the top trim level, retains all that stuff, but improves on it. This includes more power, more fuel economy, and more technology. It also means two more gears for the automatic transmission. There are a host of other changes to the '12s, which Mercedes talked about when she attended the Soul's launch this summer.

For me, the first thing that struck me was the power, up to 167 horses (25 more than the previous 2.0-liter mill). This thing—automatic transmission and all—moves out pretty well. The highway ride seems more composed than the '10, too.

Stig family stickers are a nifty stocking stuffer

By  Chris Shunk
Those cutesy stick-figure window stickers that tell the world you have three kids and a cat? So lame.

If you
must advertise the entire family tree on your minivan's back window, and you're a fan of Top Gear, there's a better solution. Gearhead's Stig family sticker set includes the Stig, a Mrs. Stig, a pair of helmeted pre-teens, a toddler, and a few masked dogs and cats.

Some say Stig family stickers would make a terrific gift for the holidays, and we're inclined to agree. And at $7, they won't break the bank.

My belated Christmas and New Year's gift to you all.

Graphic tees

Have you ever wondered where to get unique tees?, the best part of it all is that you can choose or vote which design gets to be printed! That's not all, the price are way off affordable than those deer and seagull (if you know what I mean), which cost an arm and a leg.

Well, worry no more folks! there's a site that caters to our taste. Heck they even deliver right at our doorstep, they sometimes have discounts or sale.

For those who are sick of overly priced tees you can find the solution here.
